Come on fans lets prove we are just as passionate about Chris as Taylor's fans
are about him!

Will Chris Daughtry Be a Bigger Star Than Taylor Hicks?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Jim Roberts
Jul 11, 2006

Taylor Hicks won round one over Chris Daughtry. Hicks defeated Daughtry in the American idol contest and is the reigning champion of idol. But now the real competition begins. With Daughtry now singed sealed and delivered with 19 Recordings/RCA Records it is Chris versus Taylor, round two.

Chris a Bigger Star Than Taylor?

Taylor Hicks starts out with a much more passionate fan base.

The 'Soul Patrol' is loyal and vocal and will back Hicks no matter what type of music he puts out. But Hicks has a problem, he will only soar if he is allowed to out his own stamp on his music. If he is "neatly packaged" and pigeonholed as some sort of 'pop star' he will suffer.

***

Chris Daughtry doesn't have that problem. He is a rocker with a good look, loads of polish and a great singing voice. He can easily be packaged by hitmaker Clive Davis.

Daughtry's album, which he's already started recording with some big-name collaborators, is due in late 2006, according to his label's publicist.

He will form a permanent band, but no word yet if it will include members of his pre-"Idol" group, Absent Element, reports PEOPLE Magazine.

It shouldn't matter. He will have the assistance Davis and he has a musical genre that he fits nicely into that can draw fans for downloads and sales and of course concerts.

***

Chris is a rock star already and a songwriter with skills.

Hicks is a songwriter as well and extremely talented, but I fear he may lose the chance to "Taylorize' his career and his unique sound. Hicks starts with a bigger base and an idol win, but Daughtry has a tremendous opportunity to grow his fan base as fans of rock and roll that never watched American Idol hear him for the first time with his own tracks.

***

For that reason - my money is on Daughtry becoming the superstar of American idol's 2006 finalists.

WHAT? I can't believe they say Taylor has a broader, more passionate fanbase! They obviously aren't paying attention to the thousands supporting Chris---at concerts, through music downloads, whatever...hmmm, interesting article. Thanks for sharing!

i would have to agree and disagree on this article.

i totally diasgree.

yes, Tay has a much larger fan base but no, he doesn't have a more passionate fan base. i refuse to accept that i (and all of us Chris fans) are not passionate enough. we bawled like a baby when he got voted out, we signed numerous petitions (which is quite silly now) to bring him back, we emailed all of the TV stations in God's green earth, we called all the radio stations in the US just to play his songs. i think that is proof enough that we are passionate. we might be smaller in number but our passion is greater.

no, i certainly believe that Taylor can "Taylorize" his own music. i believe ive read that he is being allowed to write his own. while he might not have total and complete control, i do believe that he can still put his own stuff. but he still has to fight tooth and nail becase im dead sure that the AI Mgt will do everything that they can to make him pop-ish.

i totally agree on all accounts specially that Chris is a "rocker with good looks, loads of polish and a great singing voice" wink.gif . Clive will have zero problems at all in packaging Chris because he doesn't have to. Chris is the total package. biggrin.gif

true, true... Taylor has a fan base so enormous, its rather scary but Chris has a growing (as if we're not large enough wink.gif ) fan base. there are people who would rather die thatn be caught watching AI who are starting to recognize Chris, appreaciate his talents and are excited to follow his career. there are AI but non-Chris fans who became converts after seeing the tour, so yes, his fan base is growing like crazy.

Personally, i think the music industry is large enough to accomodate both Chris and Taylor. my god, we're literally overdosing with pretty bublegum pop, we need Chris (and even Taylor) 's kind of music. they are completely different and they cater to different tastes so i believe they will both do extremely well in the music industry and i doubt that they'll even cross paths.

pop is nearing its end and rock and roll is slowly but surely re-emerging now, it's Chris time.

but competition-wise, Jim Roberts is gonna be a very rich man come late 2006.

i obviously have too much time on my hands... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Thanx for sharing the article. In my opinion, I think people believe that Taylor has a bigger fan base because of the votes he recieved on the show that last night... but, people like me for instance, I voted for Taylor on that last night, ONLY because I didn't want Kat to win, I think he is ok, but Chris is the real deal. I truly believe that Chris will be a bigger star (I am not saying this bcs I love Chris), but he has a better voice, more personality, style... I don't know what it is, I guess its the IT factor (like Simon use to say). I guess we will see..... blink.gif

Has the writer seen any of the concerts? Chris has gotten the loudest fan reaction than any other Idol including Taylor. Everytime they put up his picture, there is a loud piercing scream.

Chris has got A HUGE FAN BASE. I am even surprised at the furvor for Chris at these concerts.

Totally agree with this statement. Taylor Hicks is Johnny Be Good and Elvis songs (old rock songs). Chris Daughtry is Fuel and Nickback (New rock songs). Totally different genres.
Variety is the spice of life and there is room for both.
As for fan base?!? Obviously that article was paid for for controversy because I can hear the screaming for Chris all the way over here in Canada. biggrin.gif

Hey all Chris daughtry fans. I think that Chris Daughtry can beat Taylor Hicks in singing because Chris has a more sweeter voice and Taylor just knows how to dance not sing. I think Chris should have won. cool.gif

I love this article!! You know, there are alot of Taylor fans out there. There is also alot of Chris fans. I think this could be semi-closer than we think. People want Rock. We, basically, have two potential rockers--just different styles. Taylor DOES like to rock. He will probably appeal more to older generations, while Chris will attract the younger generations. All I DO know is that Chris ROCKS and I'm positive he will do great!! I'm excited for the rest of the world to see Chris as we see him!! HOT, SEXY, AND ROCKIN'. biggrin.gif
