Daughtry buys house in Oak Ridge

By Maria Johnson
Staff Writer

If Chris Daughtry wants privacy, he has moved to the right place -- sort of.

Daughtry, the chrome-dome rocker from "American Idol," recently relocated from tiny McLeansville in eastern Guilford County to Oak Ridge, a slightly bigger town in the northwest part of the county.

Last week, several folks in Daughtry's new high-dollar neighborhood hesitated to talk about their new neighbors.

"They're very normal, and very nice, and a very sweet family; that's about all I'll say," said one neighbor who refused to give her name. "I just want to honor their privacy."

"No comment," said another neighbor who also wanted to remain anonymous. "They really want to be very private."

But the relocation is hardly a secret in Oak Ridge, population 4,000.

Steve Spalding, who works in the summer child care program at Oak Ridge Elementary, heard the news from someone who read it in a local publication. At the Oak Ridge Swim Club, 15-year-old Michael Vaughn said the family's move was announced at his church a couple of Sundays ago. Another Oak Ridge resident, Lynn Jacoby, heard the news from neighbors who are big "Idol" fans.

"I think it speaks well for Oak Ridge," said Jacoby, a transplant from Massachusetts. "It's a good town with good schools, and a good area to be in."

Spalding believes local folks will give Daughtry the breathing room he wants. After all, he's not the only high-profile resident in the area. NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick lives nearby.

"If you look at the houses here, and the type of people here, they're very upscale business people, and they're going to go about their daily life," Spalding says.

Crap. Well there goes the privacy. Actually, here in Sacramento there are NBA Kings players that have HUGE fans, and we all know what neighborhood they live in, and nobody bugs them....maybe it's fine.

yeah, probably cause Oak Ridge,NC isn't a big city they'll be left alone like Bruce Willis in that lil town in Idaho

They shouldn't of released the street name though, there are probably crazy-obsessed fans out there. laugh.gif Who knows though.

Does that mean that the rest of us are trash just because we stalk him, ha ha just kidding of course!!! But I have always like NC wink.gif biggrin.gif

I joke but we all know there are crazy people who become obsessed (maybe there is a better work since that describes so many of us) and one reason we all like Chris so much is because of how much he loves his wife and kids and he is trying to protect them, too bad the reporter is ignorant and put so much detail, fortunately he did not post a picture of the house as well.

Thanks for posting. His house in the AI audition tape lookd nice but I'm glad for him even though I knew his old adress.
..kArEn..
they moved to have some privacy, and the article mentioned the street addy? what is up with that? so much for privacy, lol laugh.gif im glad, they found a good house and a good place to live in. looks like the AI management is paying Chris good bucks. im so happy that he's finally living the dream and he can now provide a good life for his family. biggrin.gif

I'm happy for Chris and his family that they have a nice home. Just hope that crazy obsessed people don't bother them. They should get a security gate so they don't have idoits always coming to the door.
sterling
it's so painful to see what you can get in a house in other parts of the country.
A house like that in the San Francisco Bay Area would easily be over 2 million !
knomore
Well dangit! Now he lives an hour away from me. He use to live about 35 min away. Thats not fair! why???
iamwhoiam
he's still not gonna get as much privacy as he wants to. anyway, they got a good deal!!!!! houses that size cost like 800-900 thousand over here!

I'm very happy for them---the kids & Deanna must be so excited! Their house before was nice, but this one sounds like quite a step up---good for them! smile.gif I feel awful that someone actually wrote an article about it, publishing the $$ spent on the house, the location, etc.; he bought there for privacy...some things people just need to respect.

Thats so cool, they need privacy! They are normal people too that just got sucked into this life. I can understand why they would move to a place that is a better area.

BTW is there a way to go back and change something on the previous post so the whole world doesn't think I'm an idiot??

laugh.gif there should be an 'edit' button on the bottom of your post. I think that it only appears on posts that you yourself have started; not any others.

the writer could have included less information. especially since she said numerous times that they wanted to keep there privacy. but either way especially since his fame is going to be rising more n more they wont really have much privacy neways. things will always be said... therefore ..smile.gif i say good for chris! im happy for them smile.gif

He is living the american dream. I just hope there are not nut cases that make living a normal life impossible. He has a gift that he is willing to share with the world. That should be enough. Although I can never get enough of Chris!!

Privacy, eh? That article was quite the contrary of that. Posting the address, cost of the house and pestering people in NC about it for an article? Interesting. mellow.gif

Good for Chris and his family. The property is large enuf that they can probably have enough security and privacy. Besides, with that small population, they'll notice "strangers in town" lol

I wish nothing had been posted about Chris & his families move. The move was for their privacy, and everyone should respect that. I want them to have all the privacy they need & deserve, and everyone else should not care how big or little the house is,the $$ amount and its location is not really no ones business. I can put myself in their position and think how i'd feel, He's been through a lot to get to where he is,and live his dream, and doing all he can do for his fans,so the fans need to respect that. I wouldn't invade their privacy, I'm happy for them, and wish them much privacy,

awe i understand wat u2 r sayin bout us not spreadin the word. but think of it this way.. most ppl are going to find out one way or another. at least we no the ppl @ mrdaughtry.com will mostlikely care for chris and his family enough 2 not take advantage of the information. am i rite? or would u guys take a drive or 2 by his house?
