As recently eliminated American Idol finalist Ace Young talked to reporters about his American Idol experience, one characteristic of Ace’s personality stood out above all others. The characteristic that defines and sets apart Ace Young is loyalty. From telling stories of sitting by his injured brother’s bedside to professing that he would step in front of a moving train for Chris Daughtry, Ace showed his extreme loyalty to his family, his friends, and his fans.
Ace’s brother Ryan was a mainstay in the audience during American Idol, and Ace spoke of their closeness, “Ryan is the reason for me even being able to do this show. He and I are so close. We’re the youngest of five boys and we’ve been close forever.†Ace also went on to tell about a difficult time in his brother’s life. Ace revealed “He actually broke his back when he was 20 years old; in six places, dislocated it and he learned how to walk again. And being 6’7†was a hard thing for him. And every day at lunch in high school, I’d come home and sit next to his bed and we’d talk. He was in bed for a year. He learned how to walk again; he learned how to dunk a basketball again and he is my big support staff. When I moved out to California, he came with me and really helped me to get free so I could actually work on music.â€
Ryan Seacrest called Ace Young and Chris Daughtry the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck of this year’s American Idol, and Ace young elaborated on his relationship with Chris. Ace told reporters, “Chris and I, we have a lot in common and he’s a very good man. He’s what you want in a marriage as far as very direct and loyal guy. And Dianna is very lucky to have him and she knows that and she’s adorable. And he and I really clicked. We clicked from the beginning just because we kind of have the same upbringing. We’re big on family; we’re big on people. And he, just like me, can’t wait to get to the fan base. I mean, I can’t wait to shake hands with my fans and give them hugs and say thank you for getting me to number seven. But any day of the week I’d step in front of a moving train for that guy.â€
In addition to family and friends, Ace Young also had glowing words of praise for his fan base, The High Rollers. Ace expressed his appreciation for a generous charitable gift, saying “The High Rollers did something really amazing. They raised $2000 for me last week and they donated it to the Denver Children’s Hospital in my name so that they could put that towards whatever they felt necessary. And it’s just amazing that they know me; they know that I go there every year for Christmas and I don’t even ask for presents on Christmas because after I’m done singing there for five or seven hours, whatever it is, room to room, I’m good to go.â€
